So I just received this review on my current story, Young hearts. And yeah, maybe I should just ignore it and not show them any attention but I’m getting real sick and tired of some petty anon reviewers leaving hateful review like this, and I’m sure there’s plenty of other people who get reviews like this and it’s simply not fair.
We write these stories for fun, in our spare time and all we get out of it is possibly some nice feedback from the majority of readers, but there’s always someone who has to go and ruin it.
I understand one hundred percent that not everyone is going to like what I write, obviously there’s stories that I’ve read and gone ‘urgh, not for me, thank you’ but do I leave horrible reviews like this? No, I simply stop reading and let the writer carry on for the people who are enjoying it. No harm done.
And they’re almost always on guest reviews, these cowards can never seem to actually log in and post in a way in which they could be replied to privately. And it also means you can’t check out their profile and see what (if any) stories they’ve written.
So you know what, how about you come off of anon and send that review? Give the author the opportunity to reply to you, let other people see how rude you’re being. Or, even better, how about you write it better? If my story is so crap then go and write your own, I’ll be the first to review it - and honestly.
These stories don’t just appear, they take hours and hours of brainstorming and typing and retyping to get to a place where you’re happy enough to publish it and in thirty seconds, some idiot can ruin your day with a completely awful review.
Like I said, you don’t like it - fine, it doesn’t bother me. But unless you’re going to offer some constructive critisicm, leave me alone.
Tagging castlefanfics in this ‘cause I’m hoping Alex can reblog and let other readers/writers see the crap some of us get, and maybe that anon is a follower of her blog, and they can see how much their words affect people.
I should probably also note that I have a lot of lovely reviews on this story and that pathetic loser isn’t going to stop me from writing the rest ☺️😘

I’ve discussed my very strong feelings about rude guest reviewers before so I won’t add much, but it is a good reminder to everyone. Please be nice. These writers are real people. If you don’t like a story don’t read it. If you must review and want to give criticism, do it constructively and explain why you think these things. And even better review off guest so the author can actually reply as they may have explanations or questions.
I’ve bolded some important parts of Jade’s post. Worth a read.
